RAST Numbers: Class Two (good news!)

The allergist called today and we got more information on William’s peanut allergy. Whew. So not as bad as we first thought! He is actually only class 2, which is considered moderate. He is on the higher end of the range, almost a Class 3, so he does still need to have the epi pen but it’s not like he’s guaranteed to have a reaction if someone so much as mentions the word peanut butter. (FYI: The Class number indicates the probability of having a reaction, not the severity…e.g. someone with a Class 1 could still go into anaphylaxis)They do want us to work on eliminating the cross contamination because they think it’s causing the skin reactions and the less he is exposed the better his chances will be of growing out of the allergy.

This is what his cheeks look like after he has eaten something that has been cross contaminated. For the longest time we thought it was a binky rash. Now we know better. I’m so glad there is hope that he might have normal skin someday! Poor guy might actually get a date someday!

I am sure this news is very helpful. In this last picture-William looks like a Kincaid. Must be the cute cheeks. He is also losing some of that baby look and gaining that little boy look. Thank you for keeping us all updated.

    Love you,
    Nana
