The Thrill is Gone

It’s  update time from our visit with the cardiologist.

She dropped in the weight charts by about 25% but it’s probably from being sick so much and from all the laps she does around the house now that she walks. Her heart is enlarged but that’s because of the extra blood flow going through it.   Her thrill has disappeared (which is a GOOD thing!) and now there is a strong ejection (i’ll let you google those but it’s really quite boring…just terms for sounds made by blood flow in the heart).  I’ll know more about the specifics of the update when I get his letter in a few days.

We are still in our holding pattern but she is just doing so well. The doctor finds her to be one of the most well-compensated children who have this. (that doesn’t mean she makes a lot of money, it means she shows no signs of being affected by her condition. In case you were wondering if that is how we are funding her college education.) He said “it’s like she doesn’t even know she has a problem.”  Ha.

So really everything is the same and everything is good.

We’ll go back in July and get an echo done at that time to see if the heart has made any repairs on its own. I’m feeling cautiously optimistic right now. She’s put it off for so long now she might as well go ahead and fix this thing on her own, right?

I continue to be absolutely astounded by how this has played out. I just remember the fear and uncertainty when she was born, not knowing what she’d have to go through and WHEN – picturing a tiny little baby having surgery – and now, look at her. Amazing her doctors, defying the odds. She is so incredible, you guys are REALLY blessed.

I am slightly disappointed to find out she’s not being paid well for this though. I thought that was part of the deal – 2 holes in the heart = BIG $$$$$.

maybe she’s just waiting for an offer of compensation before she fixes it herself. Get on the ball mom and fill her piggy bank. She’s no dummy.

Definately fix it on her own. Then, Matt will give up his title and Veej will be the new National International World Champion of the Universe. I’m putting my money on the Veej.
