Because of Veronica’s heart defect, she is one of the few children who qualify to receive a special shot called Synagis to protect her from contracting RSV.
RSV stands for Respiratory Syncitial Virus. It is very contagious and can result in bronchiolotis or pneumonia. Since we are watching Veronica carefully for breathing problems it is important that she be protected from these illnesses.
Our request for Synagis has been sent to insurance and we are awaiting approval. Each shot of Synagis last about 1 month and the cost is based on the baby’s weight. The more the baby weighs, the bigger dose she will need. The cost of each shot is around $1500 but can be much more depending on how large of a dose she is getting. The doctors want her to have a shot in March, April and May so it is very important that we get insurance approval.
