Veronica was born with a congenital heart defect.
She has an atrial defect and a ventricular septal defect. The atrial defect is a small hole in her heart and will be left alone. The VSD is larger and the cardiologist and team of pediatricians feel it will need to be repaired with open-heart surgery.
The VSD is a medium-sized hole between the right and left ventricle and causes blood to slip backwards into her lungs rather than going out into the body.
She is not in any danger of having a heart attack or any big drama like that, but she will find herself out of breath easily as she gets older. Surgery will afford her the opportunity to participate in sports and other activities that she may not be able to do otherwise.
She is being watched carefully by several doctors. She has had three echocardiograms and an EKG and all tests result in her needing the surgery.
Updates will be posted on the blog regarding the timing of the hospitalization and all things heart related.
Absolutely loved having Rebekah and Veronica come to our house. This was Veronica’s first visit for an over night stay at grandma and grandpa’s house. She was so wide eyed and looking all around the house as mama introduced her to each room.
Grandpa played a song for her on the piano. We believe she is going to show musical talent in the future. She loves music and even seems to be directing with her hands when music is played. Her coos and expressions are priceless!
Come to grandma and grandpa’s house any time
Love,
Michael and Linda
