Side Sleeper

Veej is now rolling onto her side! She isn’t yet aware that she can roll back so she gets pretty upset about being on her side when she can’t see her toys.

And she isn’t stopping this side-turn when she goes to bed. Oh no, it remains her favorite activity right in the crib. She turns on her side and somehow ends up scrunched in the corner of the crib . Please see my scientific diagram for futher explanation:

No Sleep for Grandma Derrick

My mom and dad did us a huge, and i mean YOOGE, favor this weekend by coming up and babysitting overnight for us. Chris and I decided to celebrate our upcoming 3 year anniversary by spending the night in a hotel and getting a full night’s sleep. We got a room on a designated Quiet Zone Floor, meaning no noise from 9pm to 9am. It was heaven. Unfortunately at that exact moment my mom was enduring the opposite. Even though VJ was pretty good, my mom wasn’t able to sleep at all for fear that something would happen on her watch. I know how that is. It took me a long time to be able to sleep at night and feel comfortable that Veronica would be ok without me hovering over her the whole time. I am so grateful for my mom for doing this for us and I hope she is able to catch up on her rest pretty soon! Thanks, mom.

Then on Sunday we took my parents and Chris’s mom out to eat to celebrate Mother’s Day. Veronica wanted to see everything, especially the handsome kitchen staff. Even when Chris tried to burp her she refused to take her eyes off them.

This is also a good shot of those ever-widening ears.

My First Mother’s Day

This Sunday will be my first Mother’s Day. I have a feeling my present will be wrapped in a diaper.

I’ve heard of baby’s eyes changing color after they are born, but what about their hair? Sometimes I see brown, sometimes I see dark blond, and sometimes I see a tinge of red. And in pictures like this I see all three.

And as you may have noticed, the blog got botoxed yesterday. I’m still playing around with the widgets and gadgets so there may be even more changes today. I think it looks good but if I keep pretending to work on it I have an excuse to look at my sweet baby’s pictures all day.

Black Market Baby

Yesterday was another tough day for me. It was Veronica’s first day at daycare. Now Veronica’s daycare consists of her and 2 other babies at a house 5 minutes away from ours, but still it was scary to leave my daughter in the hands of someone I don’t share a last name with. Even if those hands are capable and loving and will do just as good a job as I do. But even with all my tears and fears that my daughter would be covertly entered into the Turkmenistan baby black market during the six hours I was away from her, she managed to come home safe and sound. Apologies to Turkmenistan parents, but you aren’t getting this one.

Second City, Here We Come

If I’ve learned anything since becoming a mom it’s that a big hat on a tiny head = funny.

Sports Fan

We went to see Chris play soccer. Veronica sighed and whispered to me that daddy really needs to learn that you’re not supposed to use your hands.

Then I sighed and said “You’re really not supposed to sleep through the whole thing.”

Huge Thanks

Thank you Grandma Mary for babysitting!

Family Time with the Derricks

Veej celebrated her Great Grandma’s 84th birthday this weekend. Great Grandma got the special honor of holding both of the cousins. Posing for the camera wasn’t exactly on their agenda.

Then it was time to pose with the grandparents. Trust me we did not get this shot on the first try.

What a Waste of Time

I can’t believe I wasted so much time when I was pregnant worrying about whether or not she would be cute.
